Liberal democracy is a political system that has long been encompassed by Western nations. These nations have historically held the most social, political, and economic power, however in the past few decades, other countries that don't necessarily align with these same political beliefs have accumulated similar levels of such power. The People's Republic of China is one such country that has experienced rapid growth in the contemporary era. It is now arguably the largest economic power in the world, and continues to grow in military power. However its expansion and rise to power has unsettled many in the international political field as its political system doesn't encompass the liberal democracy promoted by western nations, and instead is an authoritarian communist state which is, in theory, opposed to liberal democracy. Today we ask the question, Is the People's Republic of China a threat to Liberal Democracy?
