The Debate

The location of this debate is the Galilee Basin. This is the location of the Adani Group's proposed Carmichael coal mine. The Galilee basin spans elements of the upper Lake Eyre drainage catchment, Bullo river basin and Murray-Darling Basin and the adjacent eastern highlands. The Galilee Basin is a 247,000 square kilometer thermal coal basin in the central region of the Australian State of Queensland. It is one of the largest untapped coal reserves on the planet. Adani was originally promoted as Australia's largest coal mine  that would create 10,000 jobs. At full production, the proposed Galilee Basic projects would double Australia's coal export to over 600 million tones per year. If the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the burning of Galilee Basin coal were compared to fossil fuel emissions from other countries, the Galilee basin would rank as the world's 7th largest contributor of CO2 pollution.

You can cast your vote for speakers that best align with your views on this debate. The more votes a speaker gets the higher up the list they appear. The speaker with the most votes will be highlighted as the Leading Speaker.

Everybody gets two votes. One vote "FOR" and one vote "AGAINST" which means you can only vote once per column. You can change your vote at any time - just click the checkmark () where you previously voted to remove your vote and you can cast it again.

If you use both your votes, they will effectively cancel each other out in terms of the overall debate results. However, your votes will influence each speaker individually and count towards the determination of the Leading Speaker.
